Welcome to the Must Have Too KnitAlong!

  • MustHave
In an attempt to keep each other honest and out of the LYS, Nathania and Norma made an agreement to knit Patons' Must Have Cardigan (from the Patons Street Smart book) out of yarn in their respective stashes. As soon as they announced it on their blogs a chorus of "Me too"s was heard and so this knitalong was born. Start date is Feb. 1 and the rules are simple, just join us in knitting this fabulous cabled cardigan and record your progress here on this blog. All Must Havers will be able to post their own progress and photos. Email Nathania for an invitation to the group. Musthavetoosm_1 Button courtesy Abby

Must Have Tips & Tricks

Woo Hoo!

I finally managed to get my Must Have finished. It took a few tries to get my sleeve cap to fit into the hole. It didn't help that my gauge was off or that I must have gone a little further than was required in the straight stretch for the armhole. I've posted more pictures and comments (including a description of what I did to get my sleeves to fit) on my blog but here's one for the KAL. Thanks for hosting, Nathania and Norma!

Lost and Found

I posted a month ago that I was nearly done with my Must Have and that I was very excited about getting it finished. I posted this before I realized that the reason I couldn't locate the back of my sweater was because I hadn't knit it yet. I was disappointed about this but it's ok because *now* I'm done and ready to seam her up and get her finished for some use this winter.

If anyone has tips on the button band they'd like to share I'd love to hear them. This will be my first attempt at doing something like that.

Sleeves chart?

The cooler weather is making me anxious to get back to work on Must Have.  My husband is leaving for a two week hunting trip to Colorado, and I am planning to knit, knit, knit!  This is my first cabling project, and I appreciate the charts for row by row instructions.  Does anyone have a chart for the sleeves, that they would share?  Thanks.

Debbie

Nearly There

Thankfully it appears I'm not alone in not touching my Must Have over the summer. We had a nice chilly weekend and I managed to muster the effort in knitting with wool again. I finished up the sleeves and *just* (HA) have to seam her up. Nearly there...

I hope to see everyones progress (once it cools down enough, of course).

Hey you kids, get out of that Jell-o tree!

Psst. ... awfully quiet around here. Is everybody Must-Haved out? Have all the Must-Haves been thrown aside for more summery knits? I'll admit that what happened to mine was a fatal combination of the lure of slutty summer garments, the enthusiasm-killing quality of joining a knitalong, and the mis-crossed cable I found right near the bottom of my finished left front. But I promise I'll dig mine out and finish it soon if you guys will. Anyone?

Finished!

I finished my "oversized" MHC yesterday. Before stretching, body was extremely short, sleeves too long. After bathing and stretching it I think the body is okay, but the sleeves of course still are too long. I will test if it is okay when I turn them round once - in winter. Today I made the photos with sunshine and 33°C outside. I knitted the MHC in Patons Merino burgundy.Mhc1 I have another pic at my blog (written in German) here :-) Thanks for this knitalong! I am sure, if it hadn't exist I would never have finished.

Done and Worn

Mhccardi Well, it's about time.  There it is, line and all.  (Imagine that I'm standing on my son's skateboard.)

I even wore it last night when that cold damp fog came down over the mesa.  I ended up using vintage buttons from my collection, nothing too fancy.  And I'm not going to dye it.  I'll wear it just as it is, imperfections and all, because I'm ready to move on.

Must Have Update

My Must Have Cardi has been marinating in the basket for a while as it's taken the back seat to a few other projects and life in general.

I've been dragging my feet on it because I just haven't found the right buttons for it.  I didn't want to put it together because I didn't want to start the bands because I didn't have the right buttons.  Sounds like a good excuse, eh?  Well, I found the right buttons.  I got these from Janette on E-bay.  I was looking for buttons that were feminine.

Buttoncloseup_1 I think they're perfect.

Here's another view:  Button

And finally a different view, showing it with one of its siblings:  Buttons_1

I have the sleeves on the needles right now (doing them both at the same time.)  After I get those puppies done, then it's assembly time and picking up the bands and she's done!!

finally with the fronts!

It took long enough, didn't it?

Now on to the back,....

Back Burnering

I haven't forgotten you, Knitalong.  I've just put the Must Have on the back burner for a while.  I expect I'll pick it back up mid- to late summer and finish it then.   I'm still excited about this sweater and the yarn I've chosen and I very much look forward to wearing it this fall -- maybe even to Rhinebeck if I'm lucky!  Meanwhile, I want to do a few spring and summer things.  Happy spring, everybody!
