to wish Juanita a happy birthday! She's a helluva musician, a helluva knitter, and one helluva friend. Sending you lots of love, girl!
Of course, lots else has happened while I've been away gestating. Britta hosted her fourth and final Harry Potter party, complete with all the trimmings, including an amazing gingerbread Hogwarts castle. Ben and I coordinated our costumes. He dyed his hair blond and donned Slytherin robes to come as Draco. I pulled out my Slytherin sweater and accompanied him as Pansy Parkinson.
Kevin shaved his beard and came as Gregory Goyle, Draco's lumbering sidekick. There were other great costumes, of course: Britta as a dragon, Doug and Tracia as centaur and Professor Dolores Umbridge, a little boy as the Whomping Willow, my friend Ruth as Nearly Headless Nick. Britta's parties are always amazing, and this was no exception.
Speaking of Britta... her birthday was Friday and though I missed the festivities, I put lots of love into the knitting of her birthday present. I had long wanted to make the Aura hat for her (from the Rowan Calmer Collection book), but none of the Calmer colors worked. Britta's signature color is teal and the closest I could come was a pale blue. I was determined that this should work though, so I knit the hat in the pale blue and overdyed it with RIT dye. The color came out as close to perfectly as I could have hoped! She's headed off to Norway today for a fabulous vacation. My envy meter is pegged at 11!
That's not the only knitting I've done. At TNNA we ordered some luscious Rayon Metallic from Blue Heron yarns. When they arrived I couldn't get enough of this colorway: Spanish Dancer. Of course, it seemed only right that it should become a Spanish Dancer shawl. I cast on right away and found the combination of simple garter stitch and glorious color to be just the thing to lift the knitting doldrums that have plagued me since the beginning of the pregnancy. I've only got the i-cord at the top and the ruffle edge to finish and then I'll have the perfect shawl for the holidays. Olé!
Last Tuesday the family, Sandi, Chloe, and a whole cadre of Purlescence pals headed up to AT&T Park for the annual Giants Stitch n Pitch game. It was a less exciting game than last year, when we got to see Barry Bonds hit a home run, but it still was lots of fun.
Of course there was pandemonium every time Barry came to the plate to hit. Flashbulbs popping everywhere and huge cheers from the fans. The Giants rallied in the 9th to tie the game and we stayed through 12 innings before packing the kids up and heading home, hearing the final, losing inning on the radio on the way home. Can't wait to do it again next year.
This week has been all about Amy. Singer, that is. She came to visit on her No Sheep For You tour and taught two classes at the shop. Better than that, she's been staying with Kevin and me and we're having a fantastic time. Today w're headed to San Francisco for some more fun at Art Fibers!
Tee-nuh captured this shot of my happy crazy face at the shop the other day. Can you tell, I'm feeling better and better? We're into the second trimester now and counting the days until we have another ultrasound and find out the gender of the baby. Starting to feel little kicks and wiggles. I wonder who's in there?
