I have the mother of all migraines, but I couldn't let it get to a whole week since I blogged. There are big changes afoot chez Purls. Kevin and I have been on an organizing kick. We realized that since moving into this condo nine months ago there are still things that we haven't unpacked or arranged the way we intended. It's cluttery and it's hard to keep clean. I also have been complaining for months about having the computer in the bedroom. I really want our room to be a sanctuary, a place for us to relax and recharge, not to drag work into. So we bought a flat screen monitor and moved the computer and all its accessories to the desk in the living area which conveniently has a hinged lid to hide the whole thing away when it's not in use. We then moved the computer desk out of the house completely and rearranged the bedroom furniture. Now I have a reading nook under the window, the TV at a reasonable height for viewing and everything is so much more accessible and soothing to the eye.
Unfortunately, moving furniture may have exacerbated the headache situation yesterday and I was due in San Francisco to celebrate Rachael's birthday. So I gulped down my migraine meds and jumped into the shower. Kevin drove me into the City and dropped me right at the door of Cha Cha Cha where a lovely group of people had gathered for tapas. Mmmmmmm... fried plantains and sangria. The service there was a little sketchy though. I don't think they were quite prepared for a party of our size and poor Celia had to order her goddamn Peligrino 3 times before it arrived. Then it was on to the Fairmont to visit the Tonga Room. It's a Polynesian themed restaurant, a favorite with tourists, with a lagoon in the center where periodic thunderstorms rain down over the water. We ordered fruity beverages with wedges of pineapple and paper umbrellas for garnish. There was a decent band playing on the raft out in the lagoon. Many of us hit the dance floor for a couple of songs before we headed off to the real treat.....
karaoke! And let me tell you, that Rachael can sing! Her version of Patsy Cline's classic Crazy was amazing. But Celia really stole the show. She got up and sang a Beatles tune and then she yodeled. It was priceless. We all had a fantastic time and listening to everyone sing was delightful, especially after the drunk girl in the yellow sweater (who got up and danced behind many of the singers, even the ones she didn't know) and her friends left. Yes, that's she about to pass out on the sofa in the background of that picture. Finally Emily and I cabbed it back to her car in the Mission and she drove me all the way home. It was super late by then and I had long since turned into a pumpkin.
I slept until about noon and woke up with my migraine raging. I took more of the miracle medicine that usually erases the headaches tout suite, but it only made it tolerable. We made it to the party at my friend Carol's for a couple hours, but scrapped the plan to go watch the SF Symphony and fireworks in favor of watching a movie in bed. Guess my days as a party girl are numbered.

Wasn't it a fun night?? So fun. You sang beautifully too! What fun-- Rachael should have birthdays more often.

What Joanna said. And LOVED hearing you sing, too. Feel better.

Could have fooled me -- I had no idea you were dealing with a migraine that night, you partied so well!
Ain't that a cute pair?

Migraines are yucky and I hope you're feeling better. I know what you mean about party days dwindling, especially after the bachelorette party I went to about a week ago.

So sorry about your migranine weekend, Nathania. I hope that things are better today. I am glad you were able to get out and have some fun at the party though--it looks like it was a lot of fun! :)
