Alice got a bath today. She needed one and it helped get rid of a lot of the spring shed. She hated the post bath brushing though.
But that's not what the title of my post refers to. The reason I've been absent from Blogland today is that I have been in San Francisco preparing for the Barcelino Per Donna Fashion Show for the AICI Conference tomorrow. I am one of 10 models presenting everything from casual to business to evening wear. I have 6 beautiful changes to wear. I'm so excited! It's been quite a while since I've done any modeling and I am so looking forward to having my makeup and hair done by the pros tomorrow.
Speaking of hair.... Yup, in the interest of feng shui-ing my entire life, I decided it was time for a new do. This is seriously new. My hair has been past my shoulders long for at least 3 years (longer, I think) and it's heavy. I have extraordinarily thick, slippery hair. It weighs a ton. Time to lighten up! My dear friend Kathleen has been doing my hair for the better part of a decade. I brought her a picture of Alyssa Milano's new pixie cut and we both agreed that it was a little too extreme for now, but perhaps something to work toward over the summer. This was the compromise. It's flippy, light and feels flippin' fantastic! This pic is after a whole day of wear and very little styling. Tomorrow I'll have fashion show pics of me all dolled up!
Knitting? You Ask...
I have about half of the to-be-felted purse done. Today I did a bit of experimenting with the Squiggle to see what I need to do to be able to get the effect I want. I've resolved that I probably need to double it and use a tiny crochet needle to get all the squiggly bits to the outside of the bag. Still not sure what to do about the handle, closure. Considering leaving it without a closure and attaching a pair of handles (I saw some groovy ones at Knitting Arts last week).
Speaking of crochet needles... I am a newbie to this skill. I'm looking at the Lillerosa pattern and trying to make sense of all this in my head. The pattern also calls for a teensy eensy weensy crochet needle (2mm) which I haven't been able to find. Anyone have a suggestion?
Tonight after I take my luxurious bath (to do all my pre-show primping) I'm going to pick up Lillerosa's sleeve again and attempt to get the hang of the DPNs. I'm realizing that tomorrow is MAY! When did that happen? I have just a month to finish this sweater and Ingeborg to start on the 15th. This girl had better get busy!
Oh! And I have new stitch markers to show you too! Robin made a whole slew of them. I've ordered a whole custom set from her exclusively for Ingeborg. I'll post pics of them Sunday, after I get fashion show stuff out of the way.
Lastly (though certainly not leastly) I have to gush over Rob and Matt at ThreadBear Fiber Arts Studio. I so adore those guys! As busy as they have been getting Charlotte's Web shawl combinations into hungry little hands, they take the time to answer emails, include little handwritten greetings on their invoices and in general they are the sweetest, nicest LYS owners I've had the pleasure to (virtually meet). I will order from them again and again and again. I'm even considering a trip to IN someday, just so I get to hug them in person!
